Middleton Twp. Homemakers
Seven members of the homemakers club and one guest met April 7 at the home of Miriam Aufdenkamp for their
annual silent auction. The funds raised are used to build up the homemakers’ treasury. Each member had
brought some home baked items and household items to bid on.
Following the auction Betty Wenig led a brief business meeting.
The group made plans for their annual international dinner to be held May 5 at the home of Barb Limes.

The country featured will be Italy. Each woman will fix a food from that country to make a complete meal.
A guest who has recently visited Italy will be in attendance.
Marian Frobose led the club in a craft, where each one made a card or sheet of stationery using colored
stamp pads and cut brussels sprouts and romaine lettuce to make the design.
The evening ended with Wenig serving a choice of pineapple or chocolate pie.
United Women Educators
Seventeen members of United Women Educators and one guest met on April 10 at the Pemberville Library.
Susan Biddle, a founding member of the Pemberville Petal Pushers, presented an entertaining program
entitled "What I’ve Learned from Playing in the Dirt." She discussed how family and friends
influenced her growth as a gardener. Biddle shared stories of why certain plants in her gardens had
emotional importance to her and encouraged the members to share why "sometimes flowers are more
than just flowers" depending on their source and history.
She discussed differing gardening styles and encouraged anyone interested to consider joining the Petal
Pushers, who help beautify Pemberville.
Sharon Nigh reported that the scholarship committee has been reimbursing expenses for the mini grant
recipients.
The 2014-15 budget was approved and new officers were elected.
A motion to continue the Cocoon Shelter as UWE’s community service project was approved.
A card was signed for long-time member Martha Potter’s 78th birthday. Lois Zeh reminded members that the
next meeting is May 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Wintergarden Park. Naturalist Cinda Stutzman will present
"Wintergarden Park: The History of its Residents." Members then have the option of a walk in
the meadow.
