Alpha Zeta Master
Alpha Zeta Master Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi International met April 8 at Bowling Green Country Club, with
seven members answering roll call. Vice President Mary Tonjes led the meeting.
A discussion was held regarding where money for the Girl of the Year should be given. The item was tabled
until the next business meeting for the members to decide.
Treasurer Betty Goodman will be sending money to First Step for their Easter celebration.
Tonjes took names of those planning to attend Founder’s Day and will report to Dee Miller. Founder’s Day
will be held April 27 at Bowling Green Country Club. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with luncheon served
at 1:15. After the program for Founder’s Day has been completed, Ruah Buckingham, City Council vice
president, will supervise Rituals with help from each chapter’s vice president.
Goodman gave her program on the Callahan-Tillman Bridge over the Hoover Dam. It is the second highest
built bridge in the United States. The view is gorgeous and a little scary, she said.
The next business meeting will be April 22. Colleen Smith will have the program.
Alva N. Sidle Legion Unit 232
GRAND RAPIDS – Judy Thomas opened the April 3 auxiliary meeting, with six members attending.
Most of the meeting involved helping with the reports due May 1.
The unit has 201 paid members, with a goal of 215.
Payments made were $1,727 to the post for new flooring, $171 for new highchairs, $500 for Buckeye Girls
State, $487 for American Legion Auxiliary dues, and $186 for poppy mailings; $151 for fruit baskets for
shut-ins; $83 for Bloodmobile food; $25 each to Children’s Miracle Network, PPP Nurses Scholarship,
Veterans Creative Arts, Spirit of Youth, Auxiliary Emergency Fund, youth, and USO; $10 for birthday ball
tickets; $10 to Chapel of Four Chaplains; $50 for Marie Moore Fund; $50 for American Government Test
trip; $30 each for the Chillicothe, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dayton VA hospitals; $225 for hall
cleaning; $125 for raffle basket items; postage for Holiday Mail for Heroes and to send 100 cards to the
Sandusky VA Home; and $50 to Barbara Thomas for lap robes and driving to spring conference.
The post fish fry will be April 18 from 5 to 7 p.m., for $10 per person.
The next unit meeting will be May 1.
