United Women Educators
United Women Educators held a holiday dinner at the Bowling Green Country Club. A silent auction was held
throughout the evening to raise income for the scholarship fund which provides mini grants for Wood
County teachers.
Entertainment was provided by vocalist Abby Paskvan. Her presentation of gospel and holiday songs was
followed by a standing ovation.
The scholarship committee is reviewing the applications received for next year’s grants to teachers.
Donations of items needed by the Cocoon Shelter were collected from members to assist the services
provided to families.
The social committee was thanked for providing table decorations and coordinating the silent auction. The
29 members attending were creative in providing auction items.
The next meeting is March 13 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Sue Welty will present a program
on antique dolls.
Lybarger-Grimm American Legion Unit 441
TONTOGANY – The auxiliary’s Dec. 18 potluck Christmas party was hosted by Rita Euler. A informal meeting
was held, with six members present.
Patti Wires offered the prayer. Those in attendance received a snowman on a sleigh from Euler.
In place of exchanging gifts, $5 cash gifts and items to be sent to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky
were collected.
2014 membership dues are still being accepted. The unit is still short of goal so send dues to Wires at
P.O. Box 153, Tontogany, OH 43565. Call her at (419) 823-4233.
Wishes for a rapid recovery were requested for those on sick call: Gary Current, Dave Tebbe, Daniel
Weslowski and John Winters.
On Nov. 20 auxiliary members packaged 14 boxes to be sent to the troops. Postage of the boxes was paid by
Sons of the American Legion Auxiliary.
An auxiliary meeting that had been slated for Dec. 5 was canceled.
The First District Men’s Mid Winter Conference will be held Jan. 5 at the post home in Tontogany. The
meal is to be served at 12:30 by the auxiliary. Anyone who can help with this, contact Wires.
The Jan. 1 meeting has been changed to Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Euler’s home, weather permitting.
Laureate Gamma Sigma
TONTOGANY – Twelve members and spouses attended the chapter’s Christmas social on Dec. 21. They had
dinner at the Whitehouse Inn and then went to the home of Joyce Asmus in Tontogany for the remainder of
the evening.
A gift exchange was held, followed by the game 7 or 11.
A Christmas card from Barbara and Tony Verhovec was read.
The evening ended with dessert and visiting.
The first meeting for 2014 will be Jan. 6 at the home of Betty Buehrer.
