Mid-Morning Belles
The Nov. 20 meeting of the Mid-Morning Belles Homemakers' Club was held at Carolyn Borcherding's home. Ten members and one guest were present and enjoyed a breakfast of coffee cake, cookies, and a squash-apple dish.
The speaker was Chief Sheriff Deputy Eric Reynolds, who is a history buff and a Civil War re-enactor.  His talk centered on the day-to-day life of a Union soldier, especially regarding the clothes, gear, and the gun which would have been issued to the troops.  He brought reproductions of all of these things to the meeting, and left the group with new insights about the war, the soldiers, the contributions that women and other civilians made to the cause, and certainly with a deeper appreciation of the hardships and sacrifice those soldiers went through. A donation was made to the D.A.R.E. program in appreciation of the presentation.
A brief business meeting followed and officers were elected.
The Christmas meeting and luncheon will be held at the Pemberville Library Community Room on Dec. 11.
