Former BG resident McManus recognized for her service

Sharon McManus, CFCS, of Holland, Michigan, recently received the 2014 Distinguished Service Award from
the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in St. Louis. The award is the most prestigious
of the FCS profession and serves as a tribute to outstanding members for their professional achievements
and sustained leadership. McManus has been an AAFCS member for 52 years, serving throughout that tenure
in leadership at the local, district, state, national and international levels.
She lived in Bowling Green for more than 30 years. She taught at Bowling Green State University, Elmwood
High School and retired from the Bowling Green City Schools.
In addition to recognition in her teaching career she has also been honored for her volunteer service
through receiving several awards, including AAFCS Leader Award, The Ohio Teacher of the Year Award, and
the Ohio Distinguished Service Award.
Her work serving as Director of the Development Fund for the International Federation for Home Economics
in the U.S. has helped her reach out and assist families, individuals and communities across the globe.
She has arranged for funding grants in St. Lucia, Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Virgin Islands, and
India.
Her award signifies, that, "Sharon McManus’ life exemplifies distinguished service to AAFCS and the
FCS profession for a ‘Legacy of Leadership.’ She represents the United States and FCS with sensitivity,
caring, and professionalism."
