FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Bowling Green senior Bobby Shea is a finalist for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Best Defensive Defenseman Award, the league announced Thursday. Shea has an on-ice rating of plus-19, second-best in the league and best among defensemen. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder provides a physical presence and has blocked 32 shots. CCHA RELEASE Shea also has 20 points, totaling four goals and 16 assists in 38 games. The other finalists are Western Michigan junior Dan DeKeyser and Miami senior Steven Spinell. DeKeyser is looking to repeat as the league’s top defensive defensemen. The Broncos are second in the CCHA in goals allowed. Spinell captained the league’s stingiest blue line, helping the RedHawks to a league-low 50 goals against in conference play while registering a plus-10 rating and blocking 46 shots. The CCHA Awards kick off CCHA Championship Weekend March 22. The banquet is at the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit. The event begins with a social hour at 5:45 p.m. The world premiere of the Celebrating the Legacy DVD starts at 7 p.m., followed by the Awards Program at 7:30 p.m. Awards Show tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling the CCHA at (248) 888-0600 or at the door the day of the event. |
