The non-conference schedule is over, and the new season begins Saturday.
The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team went 10-2 in the non-conference, but the Mid-American Conference schedule starts Saturday with a home game against Buffalo. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
‘‘This is when it really counts. This is where we really need to show who we are; keep up the intensity, get down on defense, and start from there,’’ said BG redshirt sophomore Erica Donovan, who leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game.
‘‘My dream has always been to get to the NCAA tournament, and I feel we could do that together,’’ Donovan continued. ‘‘We could do that, but not with just one individual person, we can do that as a whole. We’re there, and we have a chance.’’
Jennifer Roos, BG’s second-year head coach pointed out during a team meeting on Wednesday that the team needs to focus on the approximately 50 practices and hopefully 22 or more games remaining, and put the non-conference behind them.

While Bowling Green made a valiant try in the second half, the Falcons could not recover from another slow start.
Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne erased a 2-0 deficit with a 9-0 run and never trailed again in a 65-60 win over the BG men Thursday at the Stroh Center.  PHOTO GALLERY
‘‘It’s definitely frustrating, especially when you know you can win the game,’’ said BG’s Richaun Holmes, who finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks. ‘‘We know in the back of our minds that we have to play every game from start to finish, like we (did) in the second half.’’
After trailing 34-21 at the half, the Falcons were able to pull to within 44-43 with 10:43 left in the game. And BG was within 53-51 with 4:56 left to play.

Mingo expected to return to BGSU hockey team (12-31-13) PDF Print E-mail

Dajon Mingo is expected to return to the Bowling Green Falcon hockey team, coach Chris Bergeron said Tuesday.
The redshirt-sophomore recently was ruled academically ineligible for the spring semester and can’t play in any games.
But the forward-defenseman is allowed to practice with the team under NCAA rules and he’s expected to be with the team when the second semester starts Jan. 13.
Mingo has the spring and summer semesters to regain his eligibility for the start of next season.
“His first indication to me is he’s coming back,” Bergeron said. “That decision makes me very happy, if that, in fact, is what he does.”

Mingo is a threat to score every shift because of his skating and offensive skills.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder has 11 goals and 22 assists in 59 games at BG, including three goals and eight assists in 18 games this season.
