YPSILANTI, Mich. — There were too many negatives for Bowling Green’s men’s basketball team to overcome Wednesday night at Eastern Michigan.
The end result was a 69-57 EMU victory.
‘‘We have to do a better job with the hustle stats,’’ BG head coach Louis Orr said.
Eastern Michigan scored 24 points off BG’s 17 turnovers, and the Eagles got 18 offensive rebounds and scored 25 second-change points. EMU also held a 36-22 scoring edge in the paint, a 14-5 advantage on fast-break points, and a 28-2 edge in bench scoring.

BG faces another key series (01-29-13) PDF Print E-mail

Bowling Green faces its next most important series of the season this weekend.
The Falcons host Michigan Tech as both teams attempt to improve their position in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
BG is third in the WCHA with 23 points, trailing first-place Ferris State with 28 and second-place Minnesota State with 24. The Falcons have played two more games than Ferris and MSU.
Although Tech is in a three-way tie for seventh in the 10-team league with 16 points, it only trails fourth-place Alaska-Anchorage by five points.
The top eight teams in the league qualify for the playoffs, with the first four hosting first-round series.
"This is the time of the year where preparation gets old for the guys because it's fairly consistent," BG coach Chris Bergeron said. "They know what to expect each day. You have to really rely on your older guys that they're staying upbeat and positive for practice."
The Falcons are 5-1-1 in their last seven games overall and 5-1-2 in their last eight league games.
"What we're preparing for is a huge series against a team that is really, really good," Bergeron said.

Dino Babers is bringing assistant coaches to Bowling Green with whom he feels comfortable with for the 2014 season.
Babers, hired last month to replace Dave Clawson the Falcons’ head coach for the last five years, has retained secondary coach Nick Monroe from the previous Bowling Green staff.
The remainder of the staff announced Monday afternoon was with Babers at Eastern Illinois.
Babers has one assistant coaching opening to fill after Larry McDaniel left last week to join the staff at Indiana.

Kim McCloud is the defensive coordinator, after serving in the same position at EIU under Babers the past two seasons.
Tom Kaufman, linebackers, will serve as special teams coordinator for the Falcons.
Mike Lynch, running backs, Sean Lewis, inside receivers, and Tom Freeman, defensive line, will also join Babers’ staff. All three were assistant coaches at EIU last season.
Sean Edinger, director of strength and conditioning, and Roy Wittke, director of football operations, will be members of the support staff at Bowling Green. Both of them served in the same capacity at EIU.

The defense did its job.
And the offense was efficient when it counted.
Those two elements combined to propel the Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team past Northern Illinois, 57-44 Sunday afternoon in the Stroh Center.
‘‘There were a lot of things that we were able to do successfully, against a talented team in Northern Illinois,’’ BG head coach Jennifer Roos said. ‘‘I thought we did a good job of forcing them into some shots they didn’t want to take. And shooting late in the shot clock was a big key for us down the stretch.’’
