Spencer Parker is emerging as a scoring threat for the Bowling Green State University men’s
basketball team.A 6-foot-7 sophomore, Parker is coming off a career-high 20-point performance in BG’s 74-62
win over Western Kentucky Monday. The Falcons, 3-4, play at Xavier Saturday at 2 p.m."He was always
going to be a confident guy, who was going to be aggressive and attack (the basket),” BG head coach Louis
Orr said. ”He has a knack of getting to the basket, and scoring around the rack.”In this day and age, he’s
an attack guy, so he’s going to draw fouls,” he continued. ”He’s a guy who has a lot of confidence in his
ability to score.”Parker leads the team with 45 free-throw attempts, and he was 9-of-12 from the line
against WKU.Also in the win over WKU, Parker scored the first seven points of the second half, to expand
BG’s lead from two to nine points in less than two minutes. With Chauncey Orr sidelined with a knee injury,
Parker has started the last six games.”He’s getting an opportunity, and he’s doing the right thing; he’s
making the most of it,” coach Orr said.Parker has scored in double figures in all seven of BG’s games this
season. He is averaging a team-high 14.4 points per game. He is also averaging 4.1 rebounds per game.He was
slowed by injuries and scored only 24 points as a freshman, but already has 101 points this season.”Spencer
went through kind of a learning curve (last season),” coach Orr said. ”He went home and worked on his
shooting. He worked on his free-throw shooting.”(There is) improvement in his defense, his help defense,
and handling the ball,” he added.INJURIES: Chauncey Orr has played in only one game so far the
season.”Your body will tell you when you’re healthy, and it will tell you when you’re hurt,” coach Orr
said. ”His body is still telling him he’s hurt. He’s got pain when he tries to do some strenuous movement,
some running; he’s got a little swelling.”Freshman Zach Denny has yet to practice with the team, and coach
Orr did not have a timetable for his return.XAVIER: The Musketeers are 5-3, having lost their last three
games to Iowa, USC, and, Tennessee.Semaj Christon, a 6-3 sophomore, leads the team in scoring, averaging
