Bowling Green goalie Andrew Hammond won’t play Friday against Michigan State, the result of a knee injury believe to have been suffered in practice earlier this week.
The exact nature of the injury wasn’t available and Hammond’s status for Saturday’s game at MSU also was unknown.
The injury means freshman Tommy Burke will start in goal Friday.
Hammond has started 22 of BG’s 28 games this season, posting a 2.52 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.
Hammond has superb of late, recording a 2.14 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. He’s 8-4-2 in that span.
The injury is Hammond’s second of the season after he hyperextended his elbow 29 seconds into the series opener at Colgate Oct. 19.
He missed the remainder of that game and BG’s next three contests.
Burke also has played well this season. In nine games (six starts),  he has a 2.23 goals-against and a .905 save percentage. His record is 2-3-2.
His most recent appearance came Jan. 6 when he stopped 32 shots in a 3-2 win at Canisius.
Junior Scott Zacharias, who hasn’t played in a game this season, is Burke’s backup tonight.
