Bowling Green’s hockey team will be
without another one of its best forwards this weekend.Adam Berkle will miss the Falcons’ home series against
Alabama-Huntsville because of a hip pointer, BG coach Chris Bergeron said Tuesday. The teams play Friday and
Saturday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.Berkle was hurt last Friday at Lake Superior and
didn’t play in the series finale. He didn’t practice Monday or Tuesday, and was not expected back on the ice
until later in the week or perhaps early next week, Bergeron said.BG visits Michigan Tech Dec. 13-14 to
finish the pre-Christmas part of its schedule."We think he could really improve quickly, once the
bruise calms down a little bit, but right now it’s pretty sore," Bergeron said. "We don’t want to
take steps backwards with him. We don’t want to jeopardize the second half because of one weekend."The
6-foot-3, 193-pounder, who combines a strong physical presence with good skill, has played consistently
well.Berkle has two goals and six assists, and an on-ice rating of plus-7. He skates on the power-play and
penalty-killing units.BG already is without forward Ryan Carpenter, one of the league’s best players. He
hasn’t played this season because of a broken finger and broken foot. The Falcons were 2-5-1 in November
against Minnesota State, sixth-ranked Ferris State and No. 14 Lake Superior.Seven of the eight games were
decided by zero or one goal. The other was a 4-2 loss at Ferris, which scored an empty-net goal with 61
seconds left to account for the two-margin margin. Four of the eight games went to overtime."We knew
the second eight games was going to a very difficult stretch and it was has been," Bergeron said.
"You need your best players."EXECUTION: BG is 1-4-1 in its last six games, despite leading late in
the second period or the third period in the four losses and the tie."Our execution hasn’t been close
to good enough," Bergeron said. "The plays we’re making in games are things that are happening
every day in practice and it’s not one guy or one position. It’s all three positions and it’s a lot of
different guys. The Falcons, third in the WCHA coaches poll, are tied for fifth in the league. BG is 6-7-3
overall and 4-5-1 in the WCHA. UAH is 0-14, 0-8."The group understands we’re underachieving, we’re
under performing," Bergeron said. "We need to play better for longer in games."EMOTIONS:
Bergeron said the team is angry and frustrated, but the players and coaches can’t feel sorry for themselves
or allow losing to become a habit. The lack of execution is a surprise because BG returned the core of its
team from the last three seasons that won four playoff series on the road."We want the anger to be more
focused on we’re leaving points on the board," Bergeron said. "We’re letting games go we should be
winning. I want our anger and frustration focused on how we can make that better."SERIES: The Falcons
are 7-2-1 against UAH, but the teams haven’t met since the 2011-12 season.BG is 4-0-1 at home against
UAH.ROSTER: UAH has used 25 players this season – 11 freshmen, six sophomores, five juniors and three
seniors.PERSONNEL: Sophomore defenseman Steven Koshey and junior forward Regan Soquila share the UAH scoring
lead with four points. Both have one goal and three assists.Freshmen Matt Larose and Carmine Guerriero have
split time in goal, combining for a 4.50 goals-against average and an .878 save percentage.ON A ROLL:
Ferris, which leads the WCHA, is 9-0-2 in its last 11 games.Ferris is 11-2-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the WCHA.
