ST. LOUIS — Poor shooting continued for Bowling Green’s men’s basketball team Saturday night.
The Falcons shot just 33 percent (18-of-54) in a 74-47 loss to Saint Louis University in Chaifetz Arena.
The loss dropped BG to 1-3. SLU is 5-0.
Bowling Green was within 22-19 with 4:30 left in the first half, but St. Louis closed the half on a 7-0 run to lead 29-19 at the break.
‘‘The first half of basketball was the best defensive half of the year for us. That’s what we’re going to build on,’’ BG head coach Louis Orr said. ‘Even though we shot only 32 percent and scored 19 points, we gave ourselves a chance to win.
‘‘The whole key was how we started the second half. We had four or five opportunities around the rim to score,’’ Orr continued. ‘‘Maybe if we make those shots and give ourself a boost, it’s a different game.’’

Bowling Green started the second half with a tip-in by Richaun Holmes to cut the Billikens lead to 29-21. St. Louis answered with an 8-0 run to take a 37-21 lead with 16:44 left in the game.
The Falcons got to within 12, 37-25, on layups from Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson, but that was as close as they would get as St. Louis pulled away for the lop-sided win.
The Falcons were also hurt by 18 turnovers which resulted in 18 points for the Billikens.
‘‘They (St, Louis) pressured the ball, and did not allow a lot of wing entries (passes),’’ Orr said. ‘‘They take you out of your offense with their pressure, and their denial.
‘‘We have to make better decisions with the ball,’’ Orr added.
Spencer Parker was the only Falcon in double figures. His 13 points marked his fourth consecutive game in double digits.
Henderson and Holmes scored nine points each for BG, as BGHS graduate Chauncey Orr remained out of the lineup with a knee injury. Orr has not played since taking himself out of the season-opener against Earlham.
Bowling Green plays Presbyterian College 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first game of the Mayan Division of the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.
