Bernard Edwards, Jr. has signed a national letter of intent to attend Bowling Green State University to continue his basketball and academic careers.
Edwards attends Lehigh High School in Lehigh Acres, Fla.
‘‘BJ is not only a talented and athletic point-guard, but also a high character individual that will fit in well with our guys both on and off the court. He brings quickness, playmaking, scoring and defense to our team,’’ BG head coach Louis Orr said. ‘‘He will give us a penetrating guard that can put pressure on the opposition on both ends of the floor. He has very good pace to his game and can finish in the lane with both hands, as well as having the ability to shoot the three.’’
Last season as a junior, Edwards led Lehigh H.S. to an 18-7 overall record, as he averaged 18.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.4 steals per contest. The 6-foot-0, 160 pound, point-guard shot over 53 percent from the field last season, including 32 percent on 3-pointers.
He averaged 21.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a sophomore.
Edwards Jr., whose father Bernard Edwards played football at Ohio State from 1988-1991 and also in the Arena Football League for eight seasons, has averaged 16.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game at Lehigh.
Edwards Jr., chose Bowling Green over Northwestern State, Austin Peay, and Ball State.
