Facing a team with 24 victories is scary enough, especially in the postseason. And while Drexel comes into Thursday’s third-round WNIT game against Bowling Green State University with a 24-10 record, it’s three of the Dragons’ losses that really stand out. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. in the Stroh Center for the Falcons’ first meeting with Drexel. Drexel plays in the Colonial Athletic Association with Delaware, arguably the top mid-major program in the country. The Dragons gave the 15th-ranked Blue Hens everything they wanted in three games during the season. Delaware won all three by margins of nine points at Drexel, five points at Delaware, and by three points in the CAA tournament on a neutral floor in Upper Marlboro, Md. ‘‘Drexel ... they played their best (against Delaware) when the most was at stake and had a chance to win at the buzzer,’’ BG head coach Jennifer Roos. ‘‘That would have afforded two Colonial Athletic Association teams to go to the NCAA, as opposed to just the automatic bid with Delaware.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Greg Christopher didn't even pause when Xavier asked if he had any interest in becoming director of athletics. Not many jobs out there like this one.
The Musketeers are moving into a new Big East that's under reconstruction, a step up for a school that had developed one of the nation's top basketball programs in the Atlantic 10. Christopher, who leaves the same job at Bowling Green, will get to rare opportunity to help mold an entirely new league.
"It's a conference out of a building box, literally starting from scratch," Christopher said on Tuesday. "So it's going to be a dynamic year in a lot of ways."
He's got a lot to learn, and fast.
Xavier and Butler are leaving the Atlantic 10 to join seven Big East Catholic schools and Creighton in forming a reconfigured league that will start play in the fall. It's a big step up for the Musketeers, who developed a prominent basketball program after moving from the Midwestern Collegiate Conference to the A-10 in 1995.

CINCINNATI —Greg Christopher, the athletics director at Bowling Green State University since 2006, is moving into a similar position at Xavier University. ‘‘Greg’s commitment to student athletes is not just about winning games and matches,” said Michael J. Graham, S.J., the president of Xavier, a Jesuit Catholic school with an enrollment of approximately 6,600. “Character and leadership building, academic excellence and community service are signature traits of how he runs a program,’’ Graham continued. ‘‘His commitment to our Jesuit value of caring for the whole person, makes him the right choice to lead Xavier’s athletic teams into the Big East Conference.” Christopher will remain at BGSU until May 2. An interim AD and a search committee to replace Christopher are expected to be named in the next two weeks. He was the 12th full-time athletics director in school history. “Greg Christopher has had a major leadership role in the University and in building a strong reputation for BGSU in the MAC (Mid-American Conference) and nationally,” BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey said. “We will miss him greatly, but know that he will have an outstanding future at Xavier.”
