Shortly after its return from Cancun, Mexico, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was in the Stroh Center shooting free throws.
Louis Orr, in his seventh year as the Falcons' head coach, was unhappy with the free-throw shooting in a 63-54 loss to Oral Roberts in the Cancun Classic. The Falcons were 7-of-12 from the line against Oral Roberts last Wednesday, including a 4-of-9 effort in the second half when the Falcons scored only 21 points.
The extra practice paid off Monday night, especially in the second half of BG's 74-62 win over Western Kentucky. The Falcons were 8-of-15 from the line in the first half, but made 21-of-27 in the second half, including 10 straight at one point.  PHOTO GALLERY
''Coach Orr has been harping on that. As soon as we got off the bus, we went in the gym and practiced free throws,'' BG's Spencer Parker said. ''That's something we have been focusing a lot on.''

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team scored 41 points in the second half on the way to a 71-48 win over Monmouth University Sunday morning.
The game was the finale of the four-game Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge. The Falcons went 3-1 in the challenge and are 7-1 overall.
‘‘They (Monmouth) wanted to control the tempo and keep it low-scoring ... They were able to do all that in the first half,’’ BG head coach Jennifer Roos said. The Falcons led 30-24 at the break.
‘‘I knew the first half would be a grind, especially playing at 10 o’clock in the morning,’’ Roos continued. ‘‘I was looking for a different tempo in the second half, and our goal was to reach 70 (points). We ended up controlling things at both ends of the floor, more so in the second half, to get us to that number.’’

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Bowling Green’s story was familiar Saturday night.
The Falcons didn’t defend well and couldn’t hold two one-goal leads en route to a 4-3 loss to 16th-ranked Lake Superior in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.
The Lakers scored the final two goals as Dan Radke tied the game 3-3 with 8:57 left and Bryce Schmitt tallied the game-winner just 2:59 later.
Lake Superior completed a sweep of the series after a 4-3 win Friday when it also scored twice in the final period to erase a 3-2 deficit.  BOX SCORE
