SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team scored 41 points in the second half on the way to a 71-48 win over Monmouth University Sunday morning.
The game was the finale of the four-game Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge. The Falcons went 3-1 in the challenge and are 7-1 overall.
‘‘They (Monmouth) wanted to control the tempo and keep it low-scoring ... They were able to do all that in the first half,’’ BG head coach Jennifer Roos said. The Falcons led 30-24 at the break.
‘‘I knew the first half would be a grind, especially playing at 10 o’clock in the morning,’’ Roos continued. ‘‘I was looking for a different tempo in the second half, and our goal was to reach 70 (points). We ended up controlling things at both ends of the floor, more so in the second half, to get us to that number.’’

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Bowling Green’s hockey team failed to protect another lead Friday night.
The Falcons held a one-goal lead in the third period, but 16th-ranked Lake Superior scored the final two goals to earn a 4-3 victory.
BG, after trailing 2-0 in the second period, eventually took the lead on Bryce Williamson’s power-play goal with 17:56 remaining.
But the Lakers tied the game 3-3 on Matt Johnson’s goal just 2:02 later and Gus Correale added the game-winner with 6:25 to play.
Correale’s goal was the first  point of the season for the freshman right wing.  BOX SCORE

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Bowling Green’s story was familiar Saturday night.
The Falcons didn’t defend well and couldn’t hold two one-goal leads en route to a 4-3 loss to 16th-ranked Lake Superior in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.
The Lakers scored the final two goals as Dan Radke tied the game 3-3 with 8:57 left and Bryce Schmitt tallied the game-winner just 2:59 later.
Lake Superior completed a sweep of the series after a 4-3 win Friday when it also scored twice in the final period to erase a 3-2 deficit.  BOX SCORE

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It has been steady progress for the Bowling Green State University football team.
Four years ago, the Falcons were 2-10.
Now after beating Buffalo, 24-7 on Friday in a win or go home game, BG is 9-3 and preparing for the Mid-American Conference championship game.
The Falcons, champions of the MAC East at 7-1, face Northern Illinois on Friday at Detroit’s Ford Field. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
Also, with the win over Buffalo, the Falcons have earned a berth in a post-season bowl game, as the two division winners are assured of a bowl game.
“It’s a rewarding process,” BG head coach Dave Clawson said. “It’s getting the right people on board, and we did that in terms of our staff and our players; we’ve recruited good people and I have a great coaching staff.
‘’This is a collective effort … I’m just fortunate enough to be the head coach.”
