Bowling Green State University has confirmed that Curt Miller has resigned as women’s
basketball coach to take a similar position at Indiana University.
A press conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at IU, according to the Bloomington
Herald-Times.
“This is a bittersweet moment that we knew would come eventually,” said BGSU Director
of Athletics Greg Christopher. “Curt transformed women’s basketball here at
Bowling Green. As much as our department and the community will miss him, we are
also thrilled for Curt as he takes this new challenge.
“Bowling Green women’s basketball is now recognizable nationwide and our goal is to
build on the tradition of excellence,” said Christopher. “Finding a new leader
for our student-athletes is our top priority. We will begin a national search
for our new head coach immediately.”
In 11 years at the BGSU helm, Miller had an overall record of 258-92 and a
Mid-American Conference record of 135-41. The Falcons have won an unprecedented
eight-straight MAC divisional titles over the last eight seasons, with seven
outright league regular-season crowns during that span. BGSU has made eight
consecutive national postseason appearances in as many years, with trips to the
NCAA Championships in three consecutive years from 2005-07 and back-to-back
appearances in 2010 and 2011. The 2007 season saw the Falcons win two games to
make the first trip to the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ in MAC women’s basketball history.
BGSU participated in the WNIT in 2008, 2009 and 2012.
Miller was named MAC Coach of the Year a league-record six times, including in 2012,
and he also earned Russell Athletic/WBCA Region 4 Coach-of-the-Year accolades on
four occasions, with the most recent honor coming last week.
Miller is the third-winningest coach in MAC women’s basketball history in league
games, and ranks second in MAC annals in overall games. He became the fastest
MAC coach to both 200 and 250 overall wins, and the second-fastest coach in
league annals to reach 100 MAC wins.
Bowling Green has won 13 MAC regular-season titles, the most of any conference
institution, through the years. Twelve of those 13 championships were outright
crowns. BGSU has an all-time record of 362-147 in MAC regular-season games,
giving the Falcons the most wins and highest winning percentage (.711) of all
league members. BGSU leads the all-time series with each of the other 11
conference foes.
The Falcons have won at least 20 games in a season on 17 occasions, the highest total
of any MAC school. That includes the current streak of a school- and MAC-record
nine 20-win seasons in a row. The 2011-12 team went 24-7 overall and 14-2 in MAC
play.
