BGSU women hold off Wyoming (12-29-11) PDF Print E-mail

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Bowling Green’s women held off Wyoming to post a 60-53 road win over the Cowgirls Thursday night at Arena Auditorium.
With the win the Falcons improved 9-3 overall. BG has won nine of its last 10 games after an 0-2 start to the season.
Jessica Slagle led BG with 16 points and four assists and Chrissy Steffen added 15 points for the Falcons, who overcame an early eight-point deficit in the fist half. 
Alexis Rogers added six points and 12 rebounds, and Danielle Havel pulled down eight boards for BG, which finished with a 42-37 edge on the glass.
Ashely Sickles led Wyoming (4-8) with 16 points, while Chaundra Sewell finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds and Kaitlyn Mileto added 10 points.
Wyoming took a 16-8 lead with 13:16 left in the first half before BG went on a 20-8 run to finish the half and take a 28-24 lead into the break.
The Falcons would push their lead to as large as 13 points in the second half and never trailed after halftime,  as Wyoming never got closer than six points in the final minutes of the game.
Slagle made 12-of-16 free throws in the game and the Falcons finished 14-of-19 (737 percent) for the game.
Both teams struggled shooting from the field, as BG finished 19-of-53 (36.5 percent) overall and Wyoming finished 21-of-58 (36.2 percent) from the field.
NOTES: BG stays out west to face Colorado State on Saturday at 3 p.m. ... Each Falcon starter played at least 29 minutes ... The teams combined for just 23 turnovers, with BG committing 12 ... BG opens Mid-American Conference play Wednesday at home against Kent State.
