Bergeron’s three seasons as head coach.The Falcons will need every ounce of their resiliency Saturday
night.They face a must-win situation to keep their season alive after suffering a heart-breaking 1-0
overtime loss Friday at Notre Dame.The Fighting Irish can close out the best-of-3 Central Collegiate Hockey
Association quarterfinal series with a win Saturday night. But a BG victory forces a deciding game Sunday
night. Faceoff is 7:05.“We’ve been in this situation a bunch of times now the last couple years where we’ve
been on the brink,” BG senior Andrew Hammond said.“You just have to hit refresh and play your best hockey
because there’s no guarantees there will be another game if you don’t bring your best.”The Falcons won the
final two games of last weekend’s first-round series at Lake Superior, their fourth playoff series win in
the last three seasons. All four of those series were won on the road, three coming after BG lost Game
1.“Our backs are against the wall and we’ve been in this position before,” BG junior Brett Mohler said. “We
just have to come out and play our best game.”The Falcons still have 19 players on their roster who played
last season, including 11 who played two seasons ago.“We have to pick ourselves back up,” Bergeron said.
“We’ll lean on everyone.”PP: The Falcon power play had just two chances, one in the first period and one in
the third period.BG had a good amount offensive zone time on the power play, but managed only four shots —
all of them coming in the third period.“We needed more of a mind-set to get pucks to the net,” Bergeron
said.BG has scored just 21 power-play goals in 40 games.PK: BG held ND to 0-of-3 on the power play and
allowed just one shot.Only nine penalties (all minors) were called in the game. Five of the penalties came
at 4:25 of the third period during a scrum in the crease of ND goalie Steven Summerhays.SCRATCHED: BG junior
forward Andrew Wallace sat out his third straight game.He had played in every game this season until sitting
out the last two games of the Lake Superior series and Friday’s game at ND.Wallace, who plays on the fourth
line, fills a defensive role. He also kills penalties and is fourth in the league in faceoffs won (57.4
percent).RECORD: With last Sunday’s shutout at Lake Superior, Hammond tied Tyler Masters (1999-2003) for the
most shutouts in a season (three) and career (seven) by a BG goalie.CRUCIAL: ND most likely needs to win the
series to keep its hopes of earning NCAA playoff berth.The Fighting Irish entered the weekend 15th in the
Pairwise Rankings, which mirror the selection criteria used by the NCAA.The 16-team NCAA playoffs consist of
the five league playoff champions and 11 at-at-large teams.GREATS: Four Falcons were named to the CCHA
All-Time Team announced Friday.Forward George McPhee (1978-92) was on the first-team, and forward Nelson
Emerson (1986-90), defenseman Ken Morrow (1975-79) and goalie Mike Liut (1973-77) were named to the
second-team.Also on the first-team were forwards Kip Miller (1986-90) of Michigan State and Brendan Morrison
(1993-97) of Michigan, defensemen Wayne Gagne (1983-87) of Western Michigan and Andy Greene (2002-06) of
Miami, and goalie Ryan Miller (1999-2002) of MSU.Completing the second-team were forwards Jim Dowd (1987-91)
of Lake Superior and Bill Joyce (1976-80) of Northern Michigan, and defenseman John-Michael Liles
