Jane Cashell, a 1955 graduate of the Bowling Green State University College of Education and Human Development, has donated $182,000 to BGSU, half of which will be used to create the Paul L. Cashell Men's Golf Scholarship.
Jane and Paul Cashell were married for 55 years.
"I wanted to honor someone who I loved, and something that he loved," Cashell said. "This golf scholarship is how I chose to do that and I encourage others to find a way to honor those whom they love as well."
The golf scholarship was created in the memory of Paul Cashell, 1954 graduate of BGSU in the College of Business Administration.
He was an avid golfer who began playing at an early age at a local golf course. Known for his straight shot, Paul had five holes-in-ones over the years, including one just months before he passed away. He and his wife Jane golfed together throughout their lives.
"We are so grateful that Jane has decided to make this donation to the men's golf program," Kevin Farrell, BG's men's golf coach, said. "This will make a significant impact and will help elevate our program in the direction we are trying to take it."
Along with the golf scholarship, Cashell is creating the V. Jane Cashell Social Studies Education Scholarship, which is created to support students pur-
suing careers in middle or high school social studies education. Cashell taught seventh and eighth grade social studies for 13 years before becoming a supervisor of curriculum and instruction with the Richland County Board of Education. During that period of time, she served as President of the Ohio Council for the Social Studies and was honored with several awards for her teaching and service to education.
