Four players have signed national letters of intent to attend Bowling Green State University to play women’s basketball, and continue their academic careers.
The four are Sarah Baer from Perrysburg; Rachel Myers from Liberty-Benton; Haley Puk form Waterloo, Iowa; and Lauren Webb from Vernon Hills, Ill.
Baer, a 6-1 center, was an All-Ohio second-team selection as a junior, leading the Yellow Jackets to a 23-2 overall record and a 14-0 mark in the Northern Lakes League.
“Simply stated, Sarah is a fantastic athlete, and she is a winner,” said BG head coach Jennifer Roos. “She will be able to run the floor very well and is the type of player who is labeled as having a high motor. She will be committed to creating an up-tempo pace for us to be successful. She can score well in transition, and will be a strong presence for us inside the paint.”
Myers, a 5-7 guard, averaged 15.7 points per game last season, leading the Eagles to a 20-6 record and Division III sectional and district titles and earning All-Ohio second-team honors.
“We are very fortunate to keep Rachel close to home,” said Roos. “She has proven to be a tremendous scorer throughout her high school career. She can score in a variety of ways and will be very effective in our ball screen offense.”
Puk, a 6-0 guard, attends Waterloo West High School. She led West with 15.3 points per game last season, including a 44.7 percent success rate from 3-point range, en route to earning Class 5A all-state third-team honors.
“Haley understands what is needed for a team to be successful on and off the court,” said Roos. “Not only is she an outstanding 3-point shooter with great range, she has an extremely high basketball IQ and is dedicated to the game. The level of competition and quality of coaching she has received is immeasurable. Haley has worked extremely hard to prepare herself, and is more than ready for the collegiate game.”
Webb, a 6-1 forward, helped Vernon Hills High School to a state runner-up finish in Class 3A for the second consecutive season last year. Webb averaged 13 points and 5.6 rebounds per game a year ago – playing the point-guard position as a junior – and has earned all-conference honors in each of the last two years. Entering her senior season, Webb already has career totals of 1,024 points and 502 rebounds.
“Lauren may be the most versatile of our signees,” said Roos. “She has played every position at some point during her high school career. She has the ability to play with her back to the basket as well as being able to stretch defenses with her outside shot. Playing for a nationally recognized AAU team with the Illinois Elite, Lauren knows how to compete at a high level which will allow her to transition to the college game very easily.”
