It’s only game five of the 16-game Mid-American Conference schedule, but tonight’s Bowling
Green-Miami women’s basketball matchup should prove to be very interesting.Miami was the preseason pick to
win the MAC East and BG was picked second.Heading into tonight’s game, which starts at 7 in the Stroh
Center, both teams are 3-1 in the MAC East with the winner moving into sole possession of first place in the
division."They are playing extremely well,” BG head coach Jennifer Roos said about the RedHawks.
"They have put in some new wrinkles, so we have our work cut out for us.”"Any time we play Miami
it’s a big rivalry game,” Roos added.Miami, 11-6 overall, is led by first-team All-MAC performer Courtney
Osborn, a 5-foot-10 senior. Osborn leads the team in scoring (17.6 ppg), assists (85) and steals (30). She
is 46-of-113 on 3-pointers (40.7 percent).Osborn has scored 1,857 career and is closing in on the top 10
all-time scoring list for the MAC.Roos said Osborn could ”arguably be the best point-guard in the
conference … in the sense she can score anywhere on the court.”Kristen Olowinski, a 6-1 junior, is
averaging 11.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game."Any time you have a scoring point-guard and scoring
center that’s a tough tandem,” Roos said. "We are going to have to do a good job of stopping and
containing Osborn and Olowinski.”In addition, Hannah Robertson, a 5-8 junior, is averaging 10.1 ppg.50: In
the first four games of the MAC season, the Falcons have held each opponent under 50 points. The Falcons
last kept four consecutive opponents under the 50-point mark in early 1975 (Wittenberg, Kent State,
Cedarville and Miami; Jan. 21 to Feb. 1, 1975).The Falcons have held their four MAC foes to an average of
41.0 points a game and 28.2 percent shooting from the field. The school record for consecutive games holding
an opponent under 50 points is five. The Falcons achieved this feat on two different occasions in the
1973-74 season. For the season, BG has held an opponent to fewer than 50 points in eight of its 17 games. The
school record is 12.60: BG is 12-0 this season when scoring 60 or more points and 0-5 when scoring fewer
than 60 points.NEXT: BG plays at Eastern Michigan on Sunday with tipoff at 2 p.m.The Eagles won the MAC
