10 Falcons earn All-MAC football honors

CLEVELAND — Led by three
first-team selections, a total of 10 Bowling Green State University football players have earned
All-Mid-American Conference honors.David ‘Chief’ Kekuewa (center), Dominic Flewellyn (left guard), and Jerry
‘BooBoo’ Gates (safety), are BG’s first-team selections. Gates is a repeat first-team pick.Kekuewa, a senior
captain, has anchored an offensive line which has led one of the top offensive units in the MAC. Kekuewa is
in his second season with the Falcons having started all 25 games since arriving on campus. The Falcons have
seen a huge increase in the rushing game in each of his two seasons. BG has averaged 180.4 rushing yards per
game during his two seasons, but is averaging 209.7 yards per game rushing this season.Flewellyn, a senior
captain, has started 45 consecutive games at left guard. He has been an integral part of the rushing attack
that averages over 200 yards per game. As a captain last season, Flewellyn was named to the All-MAC third
team.Gates, a senior captain, has 57 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble
recoveries on the season. He is the first player in school history to score touchdowns via interception,
fumble, kickoff and punt returns in his career.BG’s Travis Green (running back), Alex Huettel (right guard),
D.J. Lynch (linebacker), Ted Ouellet (defensive tackle), Gabe Martin (linebacker), and Ryan Burbrink (punt
returner) are on the second team.A redshirt sophomore Greene has rushed for 1,422 yards and 10 touchdowns
this season. He is 22 yards shy of the school-record of 1,444 yards set by Fred Durig in 1951.A redshirt
sophomore, Huettel has started 25 straight games.A redshirt junior, Lynch leads the team in tackles with 67,
including 6.5 tackles for loss.A redshirt senior, Ouellet was a third-team selection in 2012. He has 24
tackles on the season with 6.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.A redshirt junior, Martin was a first-team
pick last season. Martin had 36 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks before suffering a
season-ending injury in the Toledo game on Oct, 26.A redshirt sophomore. Burbrink has averaged 8.6 yards per
punt return for the top punt return unit in the MAC. He is the only punt returner in the MAC to have a punt
return for a touchdown this season.BG’s Alex Bayer (tight end) is on the third-team for the second straight
year. A team captain and a redshirt senior, Bayer has started all 12 games this season, and 36 consecutive.
He has caught 27 passes this season, tied for second most on the team.It is the second consecutive season
the Falcons have had 10 players named to the All-MAC postseason teams.Ball State led the MAC with 15 total
selections, Toledo had 11, while Bowling Green and Northern Illinois each had 10.The MAC specialty award
winners are: NIU quarterback Jordan Lynch, Vem Smith Leadership Award and offensive player of the year;
Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack, defensive player of the year; Toledo kicker Jeremiah Detmer, special teams
player of the year; and Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis, freshman of the year.The complete teams
