Luis Chaluisan, host of the weekly show “Planet Lovetron” on WBGU-FM, is exploring a way to bring his venture to television.
The show’s haf-hour pilot will be taped July 11 at 6:30 p.m. during a free, all-ages, no-alcohol show at Grumpy Dave’s, 104 S. Main St., Bowling Green.
The goal of the show Chaluisan said is to promote the performing talent in Northwest Ohio. The local area, he said, has as much talent as other places such as Ann Arbor. “It’s just not as hyped, not as commercialized.”
He’s working with the California production team CVP Productions and producers Thomas Martinez, formerly of Bowling Green, and Michael T. Best.
He said he wants to bring a taste of all genres including rock, gospel, hip hop and jazz. Performers set for the first show include Suspicious Behavior, which he said would serve as the house band, comedian Tim South, and musicians David Nabinger.
Chaluisan, who uses the stage name El Extreme, will serve as host, though he said he’d hope to bring in some young bilingual talent from Bowling Green State University, to serve as hosts if the show gets picked up.
He said he was exploring distribution through public television.
In addition to the local talent, Chaluisan will draw on his ties with Salsa Magazine to include a video from international salsa performers.
