Japanese improvisor to perform & teach at BGSU on Tuesday PDF Print E-mail

Percussion virtuoso and free improvisor Tatsuya Nakatani will visit Bowling Green State University Tuesday.
The Japanese artist will lead an improvisation workshop, open to all levels of musicians, at  4:30 p.m.
He will perform at 8 p.m. The Black Swamp Underground, featuring BGSU faculty and students, will open the concert.
Both the concert and workshop will be is the Art Village located in Kreischer Quadrangle. Both events are free and open to the public.
Tatsuya Nakatani is a percussion virtuoso originally hailing from Japan. Based in the United States since the 1990s, Nakatani has become one of the leading figures in free improvised music (a movement stemming from the 1960s jazz avant-garde), and has appeared as a leader or collaborator on more than 60 recordings.
He has toured and performed extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. Nakatani specializes in solo percussion performance, incorporating a variety of instruments (drums, gongs, cymbals, woodblocks, found objects) into a unique soundworld.
Nakatani's visit to BGSU will give students, faculty, and community members the opportunity to hear music that blends Eastern and Western music cultures. Additionally,
