| Former BG artist adds to Cincy pork tribute |

The public art display features 100 fiberglass pigs placed around the city. Lori Kay Harris-Farr, a 1984 graduate of Bowling Green High School and now of Cincinnati, was involved in creating two of the first pigs to be put on exhibit in Fountain Square. Harris-Farr designed her own pig with wings, "Sowwy Night," a play on Vincent Van Gogh's famous "Starry Night" painting. She said that "Sowwy Night" is especially popular since everyone recognizes the Van Gogh painting that inspired it. Harris-Farr, who teaches art at a cooperative for home-schooled students also designed a pig inspired by the work of Russian abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky. That work, "KanSOWsky," was put together by students in the co-op. The mosaic pig was created using glass tiles, and constructed with the help of about 45 students, ages 4 through 19 at the Curious Kids Home School Co-op. Harris-Farr graduated in 1989 from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in environmental design. She now focuses on mural work. She is married to Darrin Farr, also a graduate of BG high and BGSU. Cincinnati originally did a larger version with 400 pigs in 2000. ArtWorks decided to revive the project in conjunction with the World Choir Games, which will be held in the city from July 4 through July 14. It is the first time that event is being presented in North America. Harris-Farr said it was a way of offering a fun activity for those coming from all over the world for the choir event. |
