Pianist Jason Farnham who won fans with previous Live in the House shows at the Pemberville and Grand Rapids opera houses will return this weekend with "Get in the Mood for Christmas."
Farnham, who mixes classical and contemporary music with humor, will perform at Pemberville Opera House, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Grand Rapids Town Hall Sunday at 2 p.m.
The San Francisco-based entertainer has placed originals songs in movie, musicals and commercials.
His playing and composing spans contemporary romantic piano, jazz, bossa nova, blues, stride piano, and classical with a modern twist.
In his hands Beethoven's "Fur Elise" gets fitted out with a techno-rock beat to become "Fur Crying Out Loud Elise, Let's Dance!" He transforms W. A. Mozart's "Rondo Alla Turca" into "Rondo Alla Techno."
He also includes his own original pieces including his hit "Lisa's Song (When)."
As an entertainer he evokes images of "Schroeder" from Peanuts gang as he hunches over a toy piano, as well as the musical comedy stylings of  Victor  Borge. He even turns piano-playing upside down.
His Christmas program will include his own twists on Christmas favorites.
Tickets are $10. In Pemberville tickets are available at Beeker's General Store or by calling 419-287-4848. Information at www.pembervilleoperahouse.org.
Tickets for the Grand Rapids show are available at Washer's Laundromat or by calling 419-832-5664. Information at www.grandrapidsartscouncil.org.
