The Bowling Green Area Community Band will present a Midwinter Prism Concert featuring musicians in ensembles from a trio to full band Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Bowling Green Schools Performing Arts Center, 530 W. Poe Road, Bowling Green. The concert will offer fans of the 74-piece ensemble a chance to hear members play in unusual settings. That includes the Jazz Band, directed by Bill Lake and Gary Keller, performing "Take Five" as a tribute to Dave Brubeck. Other ensembles are: Antiphonal Brass Choir, Clarinet Choir, Woodwind Quintet, Low Reed Quartet and Jazz Trio, all organized and rehearsed by Lake, Karen Kelly, Ken McFarlan, Catherine Lewis and Keller. Also, flute soloist Kim Kucharski will perform French composer Georges Bizet's breathtaking "Carmen Fantaisie" accompanied by the Concert Band. The Concert Band, directed by Thom Headley, will conclude the program with the fiery Spanish march, "Fuego del Alma" by Carl Strommen. The concert is free. |
