BG Area band presents Hollywood-themed cabaret concert

The Bowling Green Area Community Band will go Hollywood for its Spring Cabaret Pops Concert Thursday at
7:30 p.m. in the Lenhart Ballroom in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union at Bowling Green State University.

Celluloid Dreams will feature selections connected to the cinema and television, including themes
associated with “Captain Kangaroo” and James Bond.
Tickets are $10 in advance only from Grounds for Thought, 174 S. Main St., Bowling Green, through noon
Thursday. No tickets will be available at the door. Seating will be at tables and theater refreshments
including candy, popcorn and lemonade will be served.
The band, conducted by Thom Headley, will showcase one of its own stars, retired elementary music teacher
Jane Milbrodt, who will be the clarinet soloist on “Viktor’s Tale” from the movie “The Terminal.”
Milbrodt has been a member of the community band since its inception.
The concert will also include music from “The Simpsons,” “Lincoln” and “Midway.” Concert band soloists
include Howard Williams, oboe, Ken McFarland, clarinet, Kim Kucharski, flute, Brian Bushong, trumpet,
Ryan Hurd, alto saxophone, Gary Keller, trumpet and vocal, Erin Crawford, piccolo, Cindy Stump, flute,
and Jim George, euphonium.
The jazz band, directed by Bill Lake, will also perform movie themes. It’s part of the program will
include “Brother Mister,” “One Day I’ll Fy Away,” “Come Fly With Me” and “The Flik Machine.”
“Bill Lake has put a lot of time, passion and energy into the jazz side,” said board member Karen Smith.
The big band helps to further broaden the community band’s appeal, she added.
Free parking will be available in lots E and F on the west side of Thurstin Ave. A handicap accessible
BGSU shuttle bus will provide transportation from parking lots to union starting at 6:30 p.m. The bus
will display a Community Band Concert sign.
