New Music Ensemble plays tonight

The Bowling Green State University New Music Ensemble will be perform a free concert Thursday at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall on campus.
The ensemble, directed by J.J. Pearse, will feature  works by Michael Kasinger, Michael Quell, and Giacinto Scelsi.
Violinist Dr. Stephen Miahky will be featured on  Scelsi's "Anahit."
A pre-concert talk by Pearse and Dr. Eftychia Papanikolaou will be presented at 7 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall.

'The Butler' on screen at Way Library

PERRYSBURG - The 2013 "The Butler" will be screened Thursday at 2 an 7 p.m. as part of the Way Public Library's  Show Me the Movie series.
"The Butler" is a biographical drama starring Forest Whitaker White House butler Cecil Gaines through the terms of eight presidents. The film follows Gaines, his family, employers and society through  the civil rights movement, Vietnam War and other major historical events. Also in the cast are Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Redgrave, and David Banner.

Peslikis leads new combo

MAUMEE - Pianist Michael Peslikis will introduce a new band with a show Saturday from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Degage Jazz Cafe, 301 River Road.
Michael Peslikis and Friends includes saxophonist Gene Parker, drummer Scott Kretzer and bassist Adam Meinerding, a recent jazz studies graduate from Bowling Green State University.
The band will play an eclectic mix including styles that preceded jazz-ragtime and blues-as well as selections from the New Orleans and swing eras, the bebop period  and the cool, funk, and fusion movements.
Cover is $6 at the door.
Peslikis will play a set of solo piano at the venue from 7 to 10 p.m.

BGSU singers to entertain

Voice students from the studio of Chelsea Cloeter will be the featured performers at the Brown Bag Music Series concert Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.  at the Simpson Building, 1291 Conneaut Ave.
Listeners can bring their lunch and purchase dessert and beverage.
The series is a collaboration between The City of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department and Bowling Green State University's College of Musical Arts.
