Way screens Russian film
PERRYSBURG - The 1997 Russian film "The Thief" will be shown Friday at 7 p.m. in Way Public Library as part of the library's Art & Foreign Film series.
Nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award, it tells of young Sonya and his mother and heir relationship with a handsome soldier who leads a secret life. Admission is free.
Museum hosts Skaggs talk on the Battle of Lake Erie
TOLEDO - Dr. David Skaggs, a Bowling Green State University professor of emeritus of history, will speak on "The Consequences of the Battle of Lake Erie" in the Toledo Museum of Art's Little Theater Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The retired U.S. Army Reserve officer discusses this pivotal battle fought on Sept. 10, 1813, an American triumph on Lake Erie that enhanced the U.S. Navy's reputation as an effective combatant against the British "Mistress of the Seas."
Skaggs' recently edited the book "The Battle of Lake Erie and Its Aftermath."
Pianist Dawe opens UT series
TOLEDO - Pianist Dr. Jill Dawe will open the Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series with a master class and recital this weekend in the University of Toledo Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.
The program for her recital Sunday at 3 p.m. features Papillons by Robert Schumann, Estampes by Claude Debussy and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky.
Dawe will present a master class on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Rep presenting 'Talk Radio'
TOLEDO - The Toledo Rep Theatre presents an Edgy Rep Reading of "Talk Radio" on the 10th Street stage Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama written by Eric Bogosian centers around a controversial late-night talk show host on the eve of his show going in national syndication. The play, directed by Jennifer Rockwood, is for mature audiences. Tickets are $10. Contact 419-243-9277 or www.toledorep.org.
