Mambo, hip hop topic of Owens music film series
Hip hop and mambo will be the focus of the film and music series "America's Popular Music" Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Owens Community College's Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
"From Mambo to Hip Hop" will feature the films "Latin Music, USA: Episode One" and "From Mambo to Hip Hop: A South Bronx Tale" as well as a performance by DJ Erik Montgomery.
The program traces the roots of the Cuban dance music mambo and how it developed and blended with other forms to create salsa. It also discusses the origins of hip hop in American ghettos.
The film and music series is free.
Dynamic trio on tap
TOLEDO - The Dynamic Trio will perform a Jazz on the Maumee show Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Aqua Lounge in the Grand Plaza Hotel, 444 N. Summit.
The trio features vocalist Lori Lefevre, guitarist Chris Buzzelli and pianist Eric Dickey,.
The series is sponsored by the Art Tatum Jazz Society,
Cover charge is $15, $10 for jazz society members and $5 for students.
