Way Library to screen PBS film 'The Abolitionists'
PERRYSBURG - The Reel Opinions with WGTE film series co-sponsored by Way Library and WGTE Public Media presents a showing and discussion of the second segment of the PBS American Experience documentary "The Abolitionists" at the library on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a discussion at 11:30 a.m.
This is the continuing story of abolitionist allies Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Brown and Angelina Grimke and how they turned a despised fringe movement against chattel slavery into a force that changed the nation.
Evan Spooner featured tonight at Hump Day Revue
Singer and songwriter Evan Spooner will be the featured artist tonight at the Hump Day Revue at Grumpy Dave's, 104 S. Main St. in downtown Bowling Green.
An education major at Bowling Green State University, Spooner draws on a number of influences incuding jazz, bues and folk for his original songs. His hour-long set starts at 9:30 p.m.
Performer Bruce Lillie will open the show at 9 p.m. and the Hump Day Regulars will follow Spooner's set.
Exhibit celebrates Bellows & New York City a century ago
TOLEDO - "George Bellows and New York 1900-1930," an exhibition devoted to works by artists inspired by New York City in the early 20th century, is now on display at the Toledo Museum of Art through April 21 in Gallery 18.
University of Michigan art history students from the used "The Bridge, Blackwell's Island" (1909) by Bellows as a point of departure to curate the show. The exhibition features that painting along with works on paper by Bellows and other American Realist artists who portrayed the changing social and architectural landscape of the city in that era.
