Symphony concerts connects with kids lit
TOLEDO - The Toledo Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with the Toledo Lucas County Library will present a Family Series concert "What a Character" Sunday at The Valentine Theatre, 410 Adams St. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. with pre-concert activities beginning at 2 p.m.
The orchestra, conducted by Jeffrey Pollock, will perform selections connected to children's literature including: "The Smurfs March," "The Tale of Peter Rabbit,"  "Hedwig's Theme from 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'," "A Colorful Symphony: The Phantom Tollbooth," "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid," "Conversations of Beauty and the Beast" and "Sleeping Beauty Waltz."

Writers support group meets
PERRYSBURG - Way Public Library and PRIZM Creative Community will be hosting "No Mic Night", a monthly author support group beginning Jan. 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  
Each month includes peer review, useful feedback, and tips for getting published, all in an informal atmosphere, directed by a facilitator.
Guest facilitator for the first meeting will be author Harley King of Perrysburg.  He has published 12 books of poetry and two works of non-fiction. He currently writes a weekly motivational blog for creative leaders and is a moderator on Google+ for a poetry group.

'Chasing Shackleton' focus of Perrysburg film discussion
PERRYSBURG - The PBS program "Chasing Shackleton" will be shown and discussed  Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Way Public Library.  
A new film follows an expedition that recreates Sir Ernest Shackleton's Trans-Antarctic Expedition, launched in 1914.  A modern-day crew of five explorers attempts to duplicate Shackleton's epic sea-and-land voyage in a replica of the original explorers' lifeboat using only the tools and supplies his team used.  When the ship Endurance was crushed by ice and sank, Shackleton's leadership saved the lives of 27 men stranded for more than 500 days.  
This program is presented by the library and WGTE-PBS.

Rep staging 'Noises Off'
TOLEDO - Toledo Repertoire Theatre's production of the comedy "Noises Off," opens Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. at the theater at 16 10th Street.
The comedy, written by Michael Frayn and directed by Carol Ann Erford and Wes Skinner, will be presented weekends through Jan. 26. Evening shows are at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20. Call 419-243-9277.

'Stomp' ticket scam
TOLEDO - The Stranahan Theater has alerted the Better Business Bureau of a scam involving tickets for upcoming performances of "Stomp."
Secondary sellers, are scalping $63 tickets for as much as $400, including selling tickets for a Jan. 18 matinee that is not scheduled.
The venue warns that these unauthorized parties may be selling counterfeit tickets as well as stealing credit card information.
