Schumaker returns from concussion, in Reds’ lineup

NEW YORK (AP) — Skip Schumaker has been reinstated from the seven-day concussion disabled list and is in
the Cincinnati Reds’ lineup against the New York Yankees.
Schumaker was set to bat second and play second base Sunday in place of injured Brandon Phillips. To make
room on the roster, the Reds optioned infielder Neftali Soto to Triple-A Louisville.
Schumaker was injured when he ran into the outfield wall while trying to make a catch July 10 against the
Chicago Cubs. The 34-year-old utility man was batting .240 with a home run and 14 RBIs.
After he passed his concussion tests and received approval from Major League Baseball to play, the Reds
wanted to make sure Schumaker went through batting practice Sunday without a problem before putting him
in the lineup.
Schumaker was 7 for 19 (.368) against Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda.
