DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. cruised down pit road, stopping just long enough for Rick Hendrick to climb halfway inside his window for the short lift to Victory Lane.

Once there, Junior slipped from the beloved No. 88 Chevrolet, bounded past TV cameras and hugged every single crew member he could find to thank them for getting him his second Daytona 500 victory.

This was a celebration 10 years in the making.

It probably won't be the last this season.

And maybe not the biggest.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — It was one of the most spectacular plays of a dreary season for the Detroit Pistons: Andre Drummond knocked a pass away near midcourt, took off toward the basket and threw down an emphatic one-handed dunk while being fouled by Atlanta’s Elton Brand.
“I knew I didn’t have a chance,” Brand said.
Drummond’s dunk propelled the Pistons to a 115-107 win over the Hawks on Friday night that snapped Detroit’s three-game losing streak and handed Atlanta its eighth straight loss.

SOCHI, Russia (AP) — Jamie Benn scored in the second period, Carey Price made 31 saves, and Canada beat the United States 1-0 Friday night in the semifinals of the Olympic men's hockey tournament.

Canada advanced to the gold-medal match Sunday against Sweden, which beat Finland 2-1 in the earlier semifinal at Bolshoy Ice Dome. The Canadians are on the brink of their third gold medal in four Olympics, and they're guaranteed their first medals outside North America in 20 years.

After its first loss in Sochi, the U.S. will face Finland for bronze on Saturday.

The defending Olympic champions left no doubt about their North American hockey supremacy in a semifinal rematch of the final game of the Vancouver Games, won on Sidney Crosby's golden goal.

The Canadians haven't even trailed in the Sochi Olympics, and they didn't need overtime to maintain border supremacy on the U.S. Their stifling defense has allowed just three goals in five games, and they clamped down on the high-scoring American offense for every minute of a slightly anti-climactic evening.

TORONTO (AP) — A terrible third quarter in Toronto brought Cleveland’s season-long winning streak to a sudden halt.
Terrence Ross scored 20 points, Jonas Valanciunas had 18 and the Raptors snapped the Cavaliers’ six-game winning streak with a 98-91 victory on Friday night.
Valanciunas had 10 points in the game-changing third as Toronto took control, outscoring Cleveland 37-21.
“We came out very soft and stagnant,” Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson said. “We didn’t make it tough for them on the offensive end.”

SOCHI, Russia (AP) — Erik Karlsson scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 25 shots, lifting Sweden over Finland 2-1 on Friday and into the gold-medal game at the Sochi Olympics.

The 2006 Olympic champions will face the United States or Canada on Sunday. The Finns will play the loser of the second semifinal for bronze on Saturday.

All the scoring came in the second, beginning with Olli Jokinen's goal from a sharp angle to the left of Lundqvist at 6:17 into the period that put Finland ahead 1-0.

Sweden's Loui Eriksson tied the game by finishing off a sweet sequence of passes midway through the period. Karlsson made it 2-1 with a slap shot from the middle of the ice just inside the blue line with 3:34 remaining.
